The Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), in collaboration with MaRS Discovery District, the largest innovation promotion organization in North America, has launched the “Mobility Unlimited Hub” program in Canada to support innovators and entrepreneurs towards building an inclusive society where everyone, regardless of disability, can move freely.
This initiative aims to foster an inclusive society and is launched in Canada, specifically in Toronto, a hub for diverse talent and innovation. The program will offer innovators and entrepreneurs various programs including marketing, fundraising, and business networking to support commercialization and accelerate the development and implementation of mobility-related solutions.
In Canada, it’s estimated that around 8 million people, approximately 21% of the total population, have disabilities, which accounts for about 27% of Canadians aged 15 and above (Statistics Canada 2022). Additionally, 72% of Canadians with disabilities encounter some form of barrier related to accessibility domestically, and 30% feel that their needs for assistive devices are not adequately met.
Many companies, universities, and other organizations with expertise in supporting innovators and entrepreneurs are involved in this program. The program is founded on the principle of “Nothing about us without us,” which emphasizes the active involvement of people with disabilities. Based on this principle, the program will advance the development of solutions with input from stakeholders.
