FamilyMart reviews its bento container standards and reduces the use of approximately 421 tons of petroleum-based plastic per year

FamilyMart announced on January 16, 2024 that it will change the containers for its private brand “Famimaru KITCHEN” chilled bento boxes and chilled sushi from the same month as an initiative to reduce plastic. This is an effort to reduce petroleum-based plastics by approximately 421 tons (t) per year.

Specifically, by reviewing the container specifications for chilled lunch boxes and making them lighter, we will reduce the amount of plastic used by approximately 418 tons. The side shrink film used to secure chilled sushi containers and lids has been changed to an environmentally friendly material containing plant-derived biomass plastic, which is expected to reduce the amount of petroleum-based plastic by approximately 3 tons.
